HHDUGC v York

The junior team got their pursuit of a second YIDU title in three campaigns off to an emphatic beginning as they romped to a 27-9 win over York at Halifax West End. The line-up saw many changes because of players no longer being available to Greaves because they are now too old.

“It meant the experience juniors had to lead and they did,” he enthused. “Dylan was six under when he won in the singles, and he nearly had a hole-in-one at the fourth where he was two inches away.

“Luca Longo (Huddersfield) was three down with four to play in the singles in the last match, on his debut, and won the last four holes to win one up. By this time there were about 40 people watching, so I don’t know how he was feeling.”

Shaw-Radford, his clubmate Ben Walker, Crosland Heath’s George Hanson and Harry Micklethwaite (Willow Valley) were victorious in both the foursomes and singles, while Sam MacDonald (Crosland Heath) was unbeaten with a win and a tie.
